Incubators

-clean the incubators with 70% EtOH, clean water pan and fill with sterile DI water + Bacdown; monitor CO2 level for incubators, change tanks when empty

-keep entire workspace on this bench clean

Autoclave

-autoclave “Dry cycle”: tips, glasspipets, glassware, microcentrifuge tubes etc…

-autoclave “liquid cycle”: DI water for incubators

Water bath

-clean water bath weekly and make sure water level is filled

- keep entire workspace on this bench clean

Media inventory

-count media bottles and create inventory log so when someone uses a bottle they must log it out and know how much media is available at all times

* fill tip boxes, glasspipets, microcentrifuge tubes etc. for biohoods

Fill carboys with MilliQ water

-fill carboys with MilliQ water

- keep entire workspace on this bench clean

Cell inventory & LN2 tank level monitoring/pH meter maintenance

-momitor cell inventory and create inventory log so when someone uses it they must log it out and know how much cell tube is available at all times

-measure the level of LN2 and record in log sheet, order LN2 when level is at  “4”

-make sure pH probe is stored in electrode solution

* fill tip boxes, glasspipets, microcentrifuge tubes etc. for biohoods

Aliquot reagents

-Aliquot HBSS, Try-EDTA, Trypsin, and TNS

-make sure entire stock is always available

-prepare buffers that are routinely stocked

Biohoods/Fume hoods (hazardous waste)

-remove everything from inside, remove lower platform and clean under it. Replace lower platform and clean the hood thoroughly

-check the waste collection bottle at the floor, and make sure biohazard waste bottle is no more then ¾ full. If full, pore them in a pan, add bleach, wait ~30min, dump into the sink with running water

-label the hazardous waste properly and complete electronic request forms to pick up (usually every Wed.)

Biohazard bin/sharps containers

- biohazardous bin are no more than ¾ full, objects are not exposed, and lid is on

-put the sharps containers in the big biohazardous bin if they are full

-take biohazard bags to autoclave room

Clean area (room 3444)

-keep area around microwave clean, clean food fridge and microwave, recycle papers

Dishes

-wash dishes (dish washer is now available!)

-after dishes are clean and dry, prepare them to be autoclaved (if needed)

RNA/Protein Area

-maintain and clean area for RNA/protein (RT-PCR and Westerns) analysis including new bench covers and maintenance of equipment.

* fill tip bpxes, glasspipets, microcentrifuge tubes etc.. for the biohoods


General duties: everyone’s responsibility

Keep workspace clean

-clean your workspace once you done/before you leave

-if needed, change counter absorbent pads, wipe up spills, chemicals, etc.

-put the equipment back when finished (i.e. western blot equipment)

tips

-Fill 3 different boxes of tips (1000, 200, and 10 microliter) per week to use outside the biohoods

Supply shortage report

-make a note in a board when you notice any supply’s run out such as tips, glasspipets, centrifuge tubes, microcentrifuge tubes, and etc.

deliveries

-put delivered items away; make sure items are stored at indicated temperatures, and check packing slip to items received

-put packing slip in a packing slip collection box

Refrigerator/freezer maintenance (maybe once a month)

-keep fridge/freezer organized

-inventory general use items
